The 3rd in a short series of guest blogs by local small traders, on their experiences of using social media.
Amanda Green, Independent Advanced Director & Trainer with The Pampered Chef, gets to grips beautifully with facebook
I have been using my facebook page for 10 months now. It really made a huge difference once I had my training from Jane Binnion and everything became much clearer!
As a result of using my page, I have had increased product orders, bookings for Cooking Shows and enquiries about joining my team and attendees for my events.
I am ashamed to say I was quite sceptical of social media to begin with, I had always felt that business was about people and that needed to be conducted personally / face to face. Of course facebook doesn’t replace this but it is a hugely valuable add on and I do feel that people who don’t use it for business are missing out. It completely overrides my website, mainly because facebook is interactive.
I post photos & recipes from my Cooking Shows & Fundraiser events which creates conversations from the people who are new to my page who I just met & those who are addicted to the ‘simple but spectacular’ style recipes I use. I can keep everyone up to date with special offers and star kitchen gadgets, seasonal and fun foody news. My business is very sociable, so photos play an important part here and the fact that my customers can comment on them and ask questions is brilliant.
It keeps people enthused, and most importantly it makes me very visible & very easy to contact, it is very easy to be reactive on facebook and to be available for impulsive requests or questions.
I have had chats with people who would not have contacted me any other way because it can be so much quicker, convenient and less intrusive for people to message or post on fb than to pick up the phone and call. I also have more contact with the hosts of my Cooking Shows and feel as though I am providing a really great service to my customers who rely on my page for inspiration for mealtimes on a weekly basis.
The interaction between times when I am seeing people face to face is so valuable and with fb it is just so instant.
Customers post their recipes and what they have made and products used on there to share with everyone, which strengthens the brand and is the best kind of customer testimonial I can get!
I also have groups set up on fb – one for the team leaders within my team and one for all our teams so we can interact, share ideas, post comments and photos and communicate about events and this is extremely effective and a great way to reach lots of people. It is taking over from emails in many cases.
