It is absolutely brilliant when a company has a social media team delivering great customer care, and believe me that is not always the case.
But… if the rest of the systems are not in place to back up promises made then, quite simply, your customers end up as disappointed as ever.

Seven things women in business can learn from Cat Smith’s election campaign
I have absolutely no idea what the heck is going on with UK politics right now, but recently we had a General Election and Cat Smith our MP significantly increased her majority changing her seat from marginal to solid after just 2 years. I watched her campaign closely and her approach provides some good lessons for women in business.
We never make the same mistake twice…
Lots of things stop us making changes, fear that it will be too costly (without checking), fear of change and general I’m too busyness.
But it’s all just avoidance, hoping something else will change, maybe my specs will just stop falling off my head, maybe we will just stop sabotaging our sales, maybe the perfect marketing plan will appear with your butties. Maybe that member of staff will come to work one day a changed person.
We may get cross with ourselves, we may get frustrated, we may blame others, but at the end of the day we won’t make that change until we are ready, until it becomes important enough to us to matter.
A week of not being Wonder Woman
It’s just all too easy to forget to take care of ourselves , to see what hasn’t been done rather than notice our achievements. So yesterday I took a step back, I noticed all I am juggling and that I have managed to keep my business on track and I reminded myself that I am Good Enough.
Vulnerability versus TMI – Running a business in an era of blurred boundaries
I was brought up with a very clear mantra that you never wash your dirty linen in public, then in March I wrote a very personal article for Guardian Small Business about caring for my mum whilst running a business and I started thinking about at what point vulnerability becomes oversharing.
Getting organised on social media – part 2
Today not one, but three, people told me that they forgot to post their content on twitter during last week’s #LancashireHour. And that’s how it is right? We have good intentions then life happens and we forget.
And I forget that not everyone has figured out the right tools to help them, so this post is about sharing tools that you can use to schedule your social media posts to ensure your good planning actually gets out there.
Thoughts on thought leadership and social media
This week I ran a workshop for CEOs on Thought Leadership and social media and I decided to share the key points here with you. One of the outcomes desired by CEOs on social media is to be recognised as an expert or a leader in their field. But how do you do that?
Social media for business – your Dos and Don’ts
Whenever I deliver team training on social media for businesses I am asked for a list of Dos and Don’ts. Once we get beyond the obvious ones like don’t swear, don’t react in anger or frustration, don’t go online drunk and don’t slag off your customers….. we then start getting into a discussion about the organisation’s tone of […]
Here’s 2017 – looking quite a lot like 2016!
This post is for each and every one of us who still falls into the trap of looking at others and feeling intimidated by their success. That’s just the bit we see, just the bit they show to the world. We don’t see how they fell on their ass 100 times a year, because it isn’t cool to share those bits – the bits with snot and tears.
