Seven things women in business can learn from Cat Smith’s election campaign

Cat-Smith-MP and-The-Growing-Club

I have absolutely no idea what the heck is going on with UK politics right now, but recently we had a General Election and Cat Smith our MP significantly increased her majority changing her seat from marginal to solid after just 2 years. I watched her campaign closely and her approach provides some good lessons for women in business.

We never make the same mistake twice…

glasses-and-neck-cord

Lots of things stop us making changes, fear that it will be too costly (without checking), fear of change and  general I’m too busyness.
But it’s all just avoidance, hoping something else will change, maybe my specs will just stop falling off my head, maybe we will just stop sabotaging our sales, maybe the perfect marketing plan will appear with your butties. Maybe that member of staff will come to work one day a changed person.
We may get cross with ourselves, we may get frustrated, we may blame others, but at the end of the day we won’t make that change until we are ready, until it becomes important enough to us to matter.

Being your own fairy godmother

fairy-god-mother

I had been waiting for things to happen so that I can have the things I want. When my daughter is rich, when I marry a millionaire… Seriously! I laugh now but  some how I had learnt that to have things I want I have to wait for external things to happen and judging by the number of people who do the lottery I suspect I’m not alone in that. Which probably means there are a huge number of  people out there who never get to act on their dreams.

The Growing Club – A business growth club for women in business.

growing-club-graduation

We know that when coaching is good it significantly increases focus and business productivity, but not everyone can afford a coach.

An End To Random, Unless Random Is Your Social Media Strategy

Posting with INTENT

Most organisations that invite me to work with them do so because their outgoing communications are random and therefore mostly ineffective. Statements such as this are common place; we know we need to get organised but we don’t know where to start. So in this post I will explain how developing a simple strategy will […]

From DAPL to fracking in Lancashire – The struggle of profit Vs the environment

Women in business

I had reached the decision with the DAPL fight that the water protectors could never be allowed to win as they are essentially calling out greedy corporations who see only $$$$$.
The pipe line can be diverted, the issue there, and here, is now a battle between  long term sustainability and short term profit making.

On a mission to put the social back into social media

I noticed that the busier I got the less I was following my own philosophy of building relationships on twitter, so I made a decision that for 2 weeks I would follow back every real tweeter that followed me and I would start a conversation with an open question  (I did sociology degree so I know about these things!).
