In deciding to get a long term shoulder problem fixed, Jane Binnion had a eureka moment regarding the need for holistic, joined up thinking, if we want our organisations to be healthy and fully functional.
Ethical sales skills
Can’t Sell? Won’t Sell? Seeing a connection between cooking and selling.
As I was coming towards the end of writing my book The Heart of Sales I got a connection for myself between cooking and sales!
I don’t much like cooking and so have told myself that I can’t cook. But not cooking is not sustainable for a healthy life, in the same way that not selling means your business or organisation isn’t sustainable.
It started with a list – The importance of prospect lists for business growth.
Time after time when I ask people “who are your potential clients” I get the answer “everyone”. Then we go through the process of unpacking that. In business you need to know Who you want to talk to and Why. List building is a crucial part of business growth, and yet it is so often overlooked.
Why I’m using Crowd-funding to get my new book produced.
As a published author I already know that writing and producing a book is totally a labour of love. It’s very time consuming and not really financially rewarding, so I decided that I would go down the route of crowd-funding for this project, to raise the resources to get it beautifully formatted and produced for publication. Believe me this is not the easy option.
Business lessons learnt from selling nettle soup.
There is a great honestly about selling ‘home made’. We pick the nettles, we know where everything is from and how it was cooked. We felt totally at ease in giving away tasters and educating people on this rather odd product and the result was people saying, “I’ve been told to come and buy your soup”. Sales from referrals in less than an hour. Now isn’t that what every business wants?
Some thoughts on the ethics of making money – inspired by Michael Gove!
This fear of money as the root of all evil is one that many small business owners get tripped up by. They want to run a successful business but fear that money will change things for the worse and make them greedy, bad people that will forget the reason they started off doing the things they do. Certainly we hear of enough people corrupted by money, fame and power, but does it have to be that way?
Getting off the fence to show your customers you have substance.
Honey Maid was heavily criticised for a previous advert by people who take a homophobic stance in life. This company could have got scared and panicked , but they didn’t, they stood their ground and came back with this wonderful, non aggressive response.
Hellmann’s is 100 years old – have they lost the plot?
I discovered that Hellmann’s are knowingly selling a faulty product. I was intrigued enough to start doing a bit of research and found some interesting worm cans.
Have you pee’d anyone off lately?
The more we can be clear about what we are and what we offer the easier it is for people to decide if they want to follow us/ trust us / buy from, us or keep well away from us!
Is ‘Closing the Sale’ Ethical?
Is there a place for The Close in ethical selling? A little while ago I was at a fantastic women’s conference with some brilliant speakers. One of the speakers was an award winning business coach. She was a great speaker and I really liked her alternative approach. One of the things she talked about […]
