Last year Twitter decided that they would change the 140 character limit. At the end of March they made a change to how we reply to someone’s tweet so @ names don’t count in the 140 characters, regardless of how many people are included in that reply.
That’s the good news. The bad news is many of us are confused by the change.
Social media training
Getting organised on social media – part 2
Today not one, but three, people told me that they forgot to post their content on twitter during last week’s #LancashireHour. And that’s how it is right? We have good intentions then life happens and we forget.
And I forget that not everyone has figured out the right tools to help them, so this post is about sharing tools that you can use to schedule your social media posts to ensure your good planning actually gets out there.
Thoughts on thought leadership and social media
This week I ran a workshop for CEOs on Thought Leadership and social media and I decided to share the key points here with you. One of the outcomes desired by CEOs on social media is to be recognised as an expert or a leader in their field. But how do you do that?
Social media for business – your Dos and Don’ts
Whenever I deliver team training on social media for businesses I am asked for a list of Dos and Don’ts. Once we get beyond the obvious ones like don’t swear, don’t react in anger or frustration, don’t go online drunk and don’t slag off your customers….. we then start getting into a discussion about the organisation’s tone of […]

#Malmo – a lesson on the spreading of racial hatred on twitter
While researching for my column I checked out what was trending on Sunday evening and I saw news breaking about #Malmo. People were tweeting about explosions and terrorist attacks in Sweden, claiming a news blackout by the BBC and Sky. I checked and there was indeed nothing about it in the news but I was wary about the tone of the tweets as they were pretty hard line anti-Islam
How to survive social media overwhelm during times of political upheaval.
The expression ignorance is bliss feels spot on right now, but whilst I’m frequently tempted to move to an off grid remote island I know that I need to understand what’s going on out there. I totally appreciate and celebrate the shift towards transparency and accountability brought about by social media, but it does mean we are confronted with disturbing issues on an almost daily basis.
