The Super Women of Lancashire -The Book

Earlier this year, after meeting so many women business owners who, just like me, were running a business as well as raising a family, looking after elders etc, I decided to start a series of blog posts sharing the stories of these amazing women who, all too often, go unrecognised.

What an adventure it turned out to be! Lots of firsts all round….  Most of the women had never blogged before, the blog posts led me to being invited to do a Q&A with Rosie Garland as part of Lancaster Litfest,  and 10 posts later this was getting so popular I was urged to turn them into an e-book, which has just been published on Amazon, with a guest blog and forward by Rosie!

The Super Women of LancashireIt is really a wonderful book.  After months of putting it together with the very patient  Sarah Cruickshank, I finally sat and read all 26 stories, one after another, last week and it  is so inspirational – 26 very different stories but with common themes running through regarding the lives that women juggle and the reasons they chose self employment.

This is an absolute  must read for any woman considering self employment and also for ANYONE that works with business women and wants to know what motivates us!

Of course this is just 26 women’s stories. You probably know many other superwomen who also have great stories to tell. This is just a little move in the right direction to start  getting those stories heard.

Three things that I have learnt from this..

1. I am still a sociologist and community worker at heart and love to get to the stories behind the people.

2. Running with an inspired idea isn’t always a smooth ride, but it is an adventure and that is why I’m self employed!

3. E-books are a fantastic part of our new world! No more rejection letters from publishers,  just power to the people!

It is the enjoyment of the  journey that makes self employment such a great choice for me. No 2 days are the same and I never know who I might meet next, or what new skill I might learn!

I hope Super Women inspires you to do what you need to do!  I’d love to hear your story.

NB You don’t have to have a kindle to get an ebook. You can get a free kindle app’ for your pc or phone
