After a 17 year break and a child of my own I am now fostering again and wanted to share some thoughts this 2nd weekend into our latest placement.
Yesterday we bought the new addition to our family a pair of gorgeous pink wellies and she just could not wait to go for a walk in them today and jump in the mud. It reminded me of having my girl Izzy, and seeing things a new as through her eyes. It’s the little things that we may stop noticing that may delight a new member of the family and bring a little joy to your day too.
The dynamics are interesting of course and it is not without its challenges to all of us, but for all my anxieties of would I be able to attach to someone else’s child etc it is just great to have her here. Of course we don’t know how long that will be but that’s ok if you can just take it all one day at a time.
We support a fantastic little children’s home in Sekyere, rural Ghana, but this is a good reminder that we also have many children closer to home who are also in need. So if you are wondering how to grow your community perhaps have a look at the kids. If you dont feel you can foster how about supporting a foster family, or a family that you know are struggling, or giving an hour a week to mentor a young person. It makes a huge difference.
I would like to hear your thoughts on this.
