WWF Use YouTube And Will Power To Get The Planet to Number 1

The Christmas count down begins and for the music industry that means the race for the Christmas number one. This year I am taking an interest for the first time in a good few years because WWF have joined the race and I hope they win because that would mean money going to save the big cats, not feed the fat cats (see what I did there ).

Will Young, who must be the nicest man in music, has joined forces with WWF to do a cover of of Burt Bacharach’s classic “What the World Needs Now is Love” – and boy do we.

WWF and Water Aid are the 2 charities that I make a monthly donation to and over the years I have seen an amazing change in their marketing strategies and their use of storytelling to engage and educate us, but this WWF campaign just blows everything else away.

If you didn’t see their TV advert when it was launched on November 20th then sit back for 3 minutes and watch the YouTube video. It is breathtakingly captivating in it’s beautiful  simplicity.

As an ethical trader I consider myself to be pretty well informed, but the shocking headline

WEvery 2 seconds an area of forest the size of a football field is destroyed

stopped me in my tracks.

And the one that kept me awake last night (on the eve of the UN Climate Change Conference)  was

Wildlife populations have declined by 50% since 1970.

What!

In my life time – and in Will’s, we have allowed 50% of the wildlife population to be destroyed.  How and Why did we do that?

That means that the world leaders over the last 45 years have been behaving as though there is no tomorrow. If we and they keep that up, they will be right!

We really really need to wake up to our responsibilities of being tenants on this amazing planet. Whilst politicians drag their heels many businesses are leading the way in this, but some still think they are not accountable and continue to put profit before anything else. Just look at the palm oil situation

WWF have been sharing stunning images and short videos on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram under #WorldNeedsLove. Check them out.

You will find full details of  their campaign here

I want them to get to number one this Christmas. How great will it be to have the video played on Top of The Pops on Christmas Day!

…not just for some but for everyone
