You work for who?! Is your Facebook profile sending people to the wrong business?

A really common question regarding Facebook for business use is  ‘how do I get more people to find and like my page?’  With all the effort going into it,  I have been surprised to discover  just  how many business owners are making a very simple mistake of not  using the link of  personal page to business page via the employment status.

Just this week I was struggling trying to find the facebook business page of two  successful  businesses, so I went to their owners personal page and  clicked through. One  took me to blank page and the other to someone else’s  business that had  the same name! That made me realise just how often people are failing to notice this .

Who do you work for?

When you set up your facebook personal page you have the option to say what your employment status is. Facebook then tries to link what you have written to an existing facebook page, and if it cant find one, being very helpful,  it creates a blank one for you!

And it is because  people don’t realise this, that  there are so many blank pages on facebook!  A wonderful example  is the page called self employed and loving it. So many people have chosen this as their employment status on their profile that this page has  143,021 likes and  1,667  talking about it!   Now wouldn’t you just love that to be your page!

So how do you fix this?

If you look at this screen capture you will see when I hover the mouse over  my employment  status  it shows my  business page. That way my friends can easily find my page  and then of course like it!

If your’s doesn’t do that you’re missing a trick. To fix it just click on your about section under the blue box . In the work and education section is employers . Click edit,  write the name of your business facebook page in there and … Nelly’s your Aunty, another bit of easy linking up all sorted.  making it so much easier for people to find your organisation.

If you don’t want it to use it for that end, that’s obviously your choice, but it’s still worth checking what it is linking to!

Hope this helps.
